Like the Baofeng 1701, the Radtel RT-4D 5W is bit more than just your average DMR radio. It can also pick up analogue signals just fine. The analogue frequency range for the RT-4D is much wider than its digital range, but this can be widened by installing aftermarket programming software / firmware. With the stock software the analogue range is much wider than that on the Baofeng 1701, and it has airband [Aviation] and CB frequencies. But keep in mind that the CB frequency range is only in FM mode, and airband is of course listen only. However, that is still quite impressive for cheap dual band two-way radio.
When it comes to build quality, RX / TX signal reception distance and quality, reviews are largely positive across the board. Battery life from the 3500mAh Li-ion battery is very good. Encryption options are also excellent with ARC/AES-128/AES-256 available. There’s over 1000 channels that can be added, up to 250 zones, 2000 digital contacts, NOAA [American weather related updates], 256 receive group lists, promiscuous mode [all filters off to listen to everything], and even text messaging. The Radtel RT-4D also has FM radio, remote options, and has a USB-C charging port.

The Radtel RT-4D is highly customizable and easily modified using CPS software [cable + computer required]. It’s small in size but you get a lot of radio for the price. With good transmitting abilities and good receive reception, it’s a good choice if you’re looking for a low priced basic wide range 5 Watt analogue / DMR Tier 1 / 2 radio. If you don’t necessarily need digital frequency access, a radio worth considering which has a wide analogue range is the new Quansheng TK11.

I would like to report an issue with the most recent release of the CPS software for the RT-4B. The software appears to have problems correctly configuring the DMR time slot and talkgroup parameters, resulting in the radio failing to decode DMR time slot audio properly.
I am currently using CPS Software Version V1.24 (as posted on website) and Firmware Version DMR V1.2.0.22.
The radio transmits correctly on either time slot with the appropriate talkgroup. However, it will not receive the selected talkgroup unless it is placed in promiscuous mode, in which case it receives all traffic on that time slot.
