The WOUXUN UV-9D Plus is a really nice hand-held transceiver radio capable of picking up 7 receive bands with its stock firmware. Like the WOUXUN KG-UV9D Mate, the UV-9D Plus should be able to be programmed / unlocked to use GMRS via CHIRP editing software. As well as AM mode options. The dual band WOUXUN UV-9D Plus uses superheterodyne technology. This contributes to better noise reduction and improved recevie strength. It’s cross-band repeater function is one of the most sought after features for this model.
The build quality is really good. The plastic housing feels a little more better quality than what we typically see on some of the cheaper radios that have similar features. It can save up to 999 channels to its built-in memory, and has a 2000mAh battery. I’ve seen tests done on this battery in review videos and it was confirmed to have the full 2000mAh capacity.
Frequency Range [the seven bands] is as follows: 76MHz-108MHz(FM) 108MHz-136MHz(airband / receive only) 136MHz-180MHz(FM) [RX / TX] 230MHz-250MHz(FM) 350MHz-400MHz(FM) 400MHz-512MHz(FM) [RX / TX] and 700MHz-985MHz(FM) excluding cellular. Not that this means much these days as cellular is now digital in all but a few countries (developing nations) worldwide. So not sure why its still blocked. Perhaps its still a law requirement by some Governments when radios are going to be used in different countries.
Some say this radio has an IP55 rating, which would make it somewhat protected from dust and water. However, the sellers description does not mention it and even goes so far as to mention that its not waterproof. And even if it were the case that the WOUXUN UV-9D Plus does have an IP55 rating, that does not make it fully waterproof or weatherproofed.
Standard radio package comes with battery, desktop charger, car charger, belt clip, manual and two antennas. But also available are several add-on package / bundle deals that includes a variation of different accessories. Such as, the programming cable, USB Type-C charging cable, longer antenna and an external PTT microphone.
