Out the box Quansheng radios can’t listen to 27MHz CB transmissions because the stock software frequency range doesn’t go down that low. But It’s no secret that even with Egzumer firmware installed, which does go down that low, the Quansheng K5-8, K6, and UV 5R Plus “walkie talkies” are still almost completely deaf at 27MHz. I say almost because I did pick up one transmission with the stock antenna. But that was because it was a very strong signal close by to my location. Every other time there has been nothing.
So, once Egzumer or any other modification firmware is put onto the device that is capable of going down to 27MHz, it’s all about the antenna. The stock antenna is basically useless for picking up CB talk. So you need something that is made for 27MHz. The good news is many dedicated antennas that are built specifically for the CB bands are quite cheap to buy.
One brand I would recommend is ABBREE. I have been using an ABBREE 27MHz antenna for CB and it has been really good. There are a few to choose from, but the main two are the thin black “whip” antenna, and the extra long silver telescopic. I’m using the black whip by ABBREE and it has been good. Measures about 40 cm and picks up well. Other than listening to CBs in the UK where I’m based, I regularly hear transmissions from all over Europe / South America, Russia, and even America.

And here it is on the Quansheng K6
So if you want to hear some CB chat on a modified Quansheng I would definitely recommend the two CB antennas by ABBREE. Both the black whip and silver telescopic will do the job. The silver telescopic is slightly more expensive. But on Aliexpress they are both really cheap anyway. Much cheaper than anywhere else online.
If you were to buy the same antennas on eBay, you would be buying the exact same antenna being sold on Aliexpress, only it will be more expensive due to the reseller putting their profit margin on top. And you can bet your bottom dollar that the eBay seller ordered them from Aliexpress anyway. Many more people are doing that these days, so its best to go straight to their source and get them cheaper.
