Realistic 400 Channel Pro 2006 Scanner

One of the scanner legends of the 1990’s. A great scanner that has almost withstood the test of time. Even today, as far as analogue receivers go, the Realistic Pro 2006 is excellent. It has a wide scanning range of 25MHz – 520MHz and 760MHz – 1300MHz [UK]. In 2025, with few gaps in the frequency range, that’s still very respectable. But back in the 90’s it was huge. For an extensive look at the Realistic Pro 2006 and some of its features, please watch the video below.

A quick lowdown of the main features. 400 channels can be saved to the memory. There’s AM, NFM and WFM modes. A “Speed” button, which can alter the speed of the scan rate from normal to Hyperscan. Limited function [scan a specific frequency range over and over], delay function, a sound squelch button and a backlight button that can alter the brightness of the screens blue backlight.

There’s also a 10db attenuator switch on the back. Two antenna connections are present. One is a BNC located on the back, and the other is a screw in telescopic on the top. Different MODs can be done to this model also.

Realistic Pro 2006 Reliability

Overall the Realistic Pro 2006 is a very reliable unit. Much more reliable than the Realistic Pro 2004. Many models of the PRO-2006 are still going strong after decades of use. However, there is one area on this model that is prone to issues, and that is the screen backlight. It’s been known to fail completely. Or, more commonly, start to become very dim. This is due to the electroluminescence strip that was used at the back of the LCD screen failing over time. The good news is it can be fixed. Replacement strips are available and its not really that hard of a repair job. So certainly don’t let that put you off buying what is an excellent receiver.
